A week of gruelling training is being planned for a group of youth who are interested in a career in policing.
Next week, an information session will be held for youth between the ages of 16 and 18 interested in attending the RCMP Youth Academy, set to take place next spring break.
Ridge Meadows RCMP join other detachments from around the Fraser Valley to host the academy.
To attend the camp the students must send in a written application with reference letters, pass a background check, pass a physical test and complete a one-on-one interview with local police officers.
During the camp the students learn the basics of policing from experts in the field and then they are put to the test in lifelike scenarios including domestic situations, impaired driving, drug situations, and more. "This academy is meant to be both a fun and learning experience but will be mentally and physically challenging," said Ridge Meadows RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.
The information session will be held on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Maple Ridge Secondary, 21911 122nd Ave.
