A young man was in surgery Monday, after being shot in the leg during an altercation on the streets of Maple Ridge this weekend.
Circumstances leading up to the shooting are still unclear, and Mounties are speaking with a series of potential witnesses to the shooting that occurred Sunday evening at about 7:40 p.m.
Police received reports of shots fired in the area of 224th Street and 121st Avenue in downtown Maple Ridge, and arrived to find the injured man, said Ridge Meadows RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.
“The investigation is in its early stages,” Dunlop said, noting investigators and forensic experts worked through the night and into Monday gathering evidence in the shooting.
“It appears that this shooting may be related to a dispute that occurred between two or more individuals who were in this area in the early evening,” she said.
Anyone with information about the shooting, or what led up to the altercation, is asked to call the RCMP at 604-463-6251, or to remain anonymous, they can call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leave a TIP online at www.solvecrime.ca.
