A pub on Dewdney Trunk Road was damaged this morning (Thursday) by a fire that firefighters think started in the kitchen.
The Witch of Endor near 227th Street, almost across the street from Fire Hall No. 1, was billowing with smoke this morning from the fire.
In order to bring in more fresh air into the burning building as they fought the blaze, the firefighters smashed the windows of the Dewdney side of the building.
Mark Richfield was having coffee at Starbucks directly across Dewdney Trunk Road from the pub, and said he witnessed "billowing" dark grey smoke coming
from the bar.
"It was like out of a movie," Richfield said, shortly after using his cellphone to take a few photos of the damage, through the pub's shattered
glass windows that face Dewdney Trunk. "We said, 'Holy s***, the bar's on fire!'"
Firefighters are just beginning their investigation, said deputy fire chief Howard Exner.
The fire department responded to two other calls this morning, one on Hall Street near 220th Street, which caused little damage to the exterior of a house.
"We've had a busy day," Exner said.
