Police are still not releasing the identity of a man shot in Albion yesterday, but numerous sources in the community are confirming it was former Maple Ridge councillor, and former restaurateur-turned-realtor Franz Prokop.
Ridge Meadows RCMP received a call at 12:40 p.m. Saturday from what they're describing as a middle-aged man who said he was shot.
He was found just east of 240th Street, off Lougheed Highway, apparently not in a house but on the property. Indications are that he may have been showing the property at the time of the incident. This too has not yet been confirmed by Mounties.
The victim was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery later in the day Saturday. Police are not releasing any updates on his condition.
In the meantime, Ridge Meadows RCMP, along with the emergency response team, the general investigation section, and the Lower Mainland police dog service secured and searched the property where the alleged incident occurred.
RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop announced that no suspects were found on the property.
"I can confirm that the victim has been shot with a firearm. Ridge Meadows RCMP Serious Crime Unit are aggressively investigating this very serious matter, and are still on scene with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section. At this time this does not appear to be a random act," Dunlop said.
Police were on scene early into the evening canvassing neighbourhood and apparently hunting for the suspected shooter. Consequently traffic was closed along the highway for several hours.
