People in Pitt Meadows can now check their emails while on the go.

Visitors to Pitt Meadows Civic Square, including City hall, the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre, and Spirit Square, can now use a free wireless Internet service to access the web on their mobile devices.

It's part of a City initiative to enable people to connect both in person and online.

"The City is providing the free Wi-Fi service in our Civic Square as a courtesy to our residents," said Director of Corporate Services Laurie Darcus.

"People who use the rec centre, people who come to enjoy public performances in Spirit Square and want to share them online, and those who use space in municipal hall and need Internet access for presentations will all find this useful," Darcus added.

Pitt Meadows is following suit with many other cities around North America that offer free Wi-Fi in public areas. Other areas include Vancouver, Langley, and Maple Ridge.

"People in Pitt Meadows are very active; biking, walking, and enjoying the outdoors, and because staying connected is an important part of people's lives today, this allows them to be connected to services and apps on their mobile devices while in our Civic Square," said Mayor Deb Walters.

"It's a service that enhances the liveability and community connection in Pitt Meadows."

To use the service, users can search for available wireless networks on their mobile device and select the City's hotspot, called "CPM Guest." Then they must accept the guest Internet terms and disclaimer agreement.
