Shifting boundaries of the Canadian identity is the motif of a new show at the Maple Ridge Art Gallery.

The show features work by artist duo Christian Nicolay and Ya-chu Kang and runs from Saturday, Feb. 9 to Saturday, March 9. The name of the exhib, Portable Walls, refers to the artists' portrayal of those shifting boundaries that increasingly define identities, particularly in Canada where the properties of old and new, east and west, and male and female are no longer easily defined.

When working in collaboration, the artists clearly share sensibilities and esthetic qualities but are in other ways opposites, adding a sly sense of humour that appears to be something of a hallmark in their collaborative adventures.

Portable Walls opens Saturday with an opening reception at 2 p.m. and continues until March 9. The gallery is The ACT, is at 11944 Haney Pl.
