After seeing a fellow Garibaldi student struggle with a serious medical condition, Sara Stanley wanted to reach out and raise money for the hospital that helps many children with serious illnesses. On Sept. 19, she will host Rock the Ridge, a fundraiser for BC Children's Hospital, at her high school at 24789 Dewdney Trunk Rd., with a lineup of young musicians including DaniElle, Michelle Clarke, Ami Owens, Cecilia Ferreira, Northern Rain, Ria Jade, and Hayley & Fletcher.
Stanley has set a goal of raising $2,000, but she said she'll be happy if she raises $1,000.
Hayley Schmidt and Fletcher Allard make up the duo Hayley & Fletcher, who will play some folksy blues at the concert.
Allard, who is a student at Garibaldi, but attends School of Rock at Samuel Robertson Technical, is familiar, as an epileptic, with the corridors and offices of BC Children's Hospital.
"I've been going [there] all my life," he said.
Schmidt believes that music has a healing power, so a music fundraiser for the provincial hospital for children was something she wanted to get on board for.
"I think of music as healing... music makes everyone happy," Schmidt said.
Tickets for Rock the Ridge are on sale at T's, 11970 224th St., and at G&G Music, 20475 Lougheed Hwy. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and children four and under are free.
