Hundreds of partygoers took in the fireworks finale and surprise flash mob at Ghost Ridge Haunted House Tuesday night.

Little did they know that a few hours later the Albion Fairgrounds would be under a foot of water.

"The District found a beaver dam and brought in an excavator to remove it," said Tom Cameron, president of the agricultural association.

"They did it and now the water is dropping rapidly," he added.

"The dam was found about 500 metres from the fairgrounds on the Wynnyks' property."

Ray Arsenault, son-in-law of Country Fest manager Lorraine Bates, was on his way to work Wednesday morning and spotted the flood and called the District's electricians.

"Apparently the department of fisheries has a floodgate down there too and it was open and the water should be running away," explained Cameron.

District spokesperson Fred Armstrong said crews examined the pumps and found them to be in working order.

"Spencer Creek runs through the fairgrounds and the pumps located at Tamarak and Lougheed Highway pump the water into the Kanaka water system," explained Armstrong.

"The pump system is working fine, so the crews [went] into the wildlife area to determine if there are any beaver dams or other debris causing the water to back up," he said.

Bates noticed that Spencer Creek in Albion was higher than usual on Tuesday, but chalked it up to rain.

However, not everyone was upset about the flooding.

Brigit Sparrow and her two dogs Bree and Gina were playing in the water.

As was Sandra Burghill's dog Bruin.

"It's an off-leash water park," joked Cameron.
