I do not feel BC Hydro has adequate concern for the protection of the health, safety, and long-term wellbeing of my family or the citizens of B.C.
The World Health Organization has declared that the type of radiation emitted from wireless Smart Meters, as a possible level 2B carcinogen, the same category as asbestos and lead.
There are strict government regulations in place to protect Canadian citizens from exposure to asbestos and lead. Yet somehow, BC Hydro's research has shown that exposure levels to the microwave radio frequency waves emitted by wireless Smart Meters are safe.
Note: the research was based on the exposure to the emissions from a single Smart Meter. However, due to the long transmission range of microwave radio frequency waves emitted by Smart Meters, undoubtedly we all will be subjected to the microwaves emitted by the multitude of Smart Meters that exist within the neighbourhoods where we live.
BC Hydro's research fails to address the effects of long-term, continual, day-after-day, 24-hour exposure to a multitude of different neighbouring Smart Meter emissions bursts, and whether continual long-term exposure to more than one Smart Meter's worth of microwave radiofrequency emissions at a time is safe.
If there was such research evidence, BC Hydro would have made it the headline of the latest mail-out they sent to all their customers, like my husband and I who are amongst those refusing the Smart Meter due to health, safety, and privacy concerns, and I would not be writing this letter.
There are too many unanswered questions.
What about the impact of an entire province worth of Smart Meters?
How will the additional RF pollution impact B.C.'s sensitive ecosystems?
How will this additional exposure to radio frequency waves impact our health, the healthy brain development and wellbeing of our children, the health of our citizens' unborn children?
How many Smart Meter bursts will we be exposed to on our commute to work, during walks around the neighbourhood, on our way to the park with our children, while we tuck our babies in to bed at night, or while we sleep?
In addition, we are not impressed with the invasion of privacy that goes along with the installation and data collected by Smart Meters.
Please note, we are a household without any wireless devices, no WIFI for the computer, no cordless phones. We have cell phones, but limit our calls and use hands-free whenever possible.
