Coquitlam city council has approved a report that will see a request for proposals for a new solid waste and recycling contract. The move is aimed at improving service levels and developing strategies for more waste diversion through various recycling techniques, according to a press release from the city.

The new contract is expected to be in place in July of 2014. The current holder of the city's solid waste contract is Smithrite Disposal Ltd.
