Larry Styba is the winner of the first Who Am I weekly TIMES contest.
He was among many who correctly identified last week’s picture as that of the late Randy Herman, a long-standing RCMP officer and devoted community volunteer.
Styba is not only our first weekly winner in the Who Am I component of this contest, but his name – along with others who Facebooked in their answers – is now entered in for a grand prize draw being awarded in February 2014.
Who Am I is part of a twice-weekly TIMES contest, where readers are asked to identify people from this community’s distant and recent past every Tuesday.
For instance, who’s in the photo above? Entering is simple. People can “Like Us” on Facebook, then using a computer or the new Layar app on a smartphone or tablet, click on the “Answer on Facebook” button and tell us who it is. Answer before 9 a.m. each Friday to be automatically entered to win weekly and grand prizes.
In addition to identifying Herman, several people wrote kind words about him. That included Denise Powell saying “What an incredible man.”
Vicki Jensen said: “He was one of the best that Maple Ridge had on the force.”
Larry Styba said “One heck of a community role model.”
Debbie Carlson wrote, “Randy Herman RIP… a pleasure to have known him.
Leslie Goldsby wrote: “My friend Randy Herman… you are missed and were loved big time.”
And Bruce McWilliams said “He was the kind of person and RCMP member we need more of in our communities.”
