Eric and Lorie Muller, founders of Athletes In Kind, a charitable organization that raises money for families who are struggling financially because their children have cancer, organized the Generations Run on New Year’s Day in Osprey Village in Pitt Meadows.
Geri and Jim Pattenden (front), owners of IGA Marketplace in Pitt Meadows, donated more than $2,500 to the Friends In Need Food Bank from a dormant community card program. Receiving the money – in the form of a gift card – were (back, left to right), Friends In Need volunteers Mary Robson, Robyn Grevelle, and Peter Dittaro.
School trustees Dave Rempel and Kathy Marshall received flowers from the board of education in honour of them receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal.
MLA Marc Dalton presented one to Rempel, while Marshall received one from MP Randy Kamp.
In the Zone Fitness personal trainer Ania Glowacka watched over TIMES advertising consultant Ralph De Adder, who took part in a 10-week (three days a week) fitness challenge. He dropped 16 lbs., two inches off his waist, and one full point on his cholesterol count, preparing him to kick start 2013 and a healthier lifestyle thanks to what he gained through the challenge.
Leanne Koehn, communications person for the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society, was out working in the depot yard in Albion during the holidays. It’s all hands on deck during what she describes as the busiest two weeks of the year.
Maple Ridge Councillor Corisa Bell, Jon Peters, and their daughters, Kaylyn, seven, and Rhyly, 15, attended Christmas Haven at The ACT on Christmas Eve.
Ken Sharpe, store manager of Save-On-Foods at Valley Fair Mall, wanted to remind his customers that they can support Friends In Need Food Bank all year long by buying “share coupons” for whatever amount they wish, and the money will be used by the food bank to purchase food for their clients.
