Five thousand pounds of food were wheeled to the Friends In Need Food Bank on Friday from Save-On-Foods by the crew from Whonnock Roofing.

The total food bill for local roofing company’s annual Christmas shop was $5,208.

This is the seventh year brothers Clay and Bram Gagnon, co-owners of Whonnock Roofing, donned their Santa Claus hats and went to Save-On-Foods on 227th to buy food for the clients of Friends In Need Food Bank.

Seven years ago, the Gagnon brothers decided they wanted to do something to give back to the community, and the Friends In Need Food Bank seemed like a natural fit.

“We know personally friends and family who’ve needed the services in the past,” Clay said.

From Bram Gagnon, the fact that children need to access the food bank services is “crazy.”

The roofing company collects the money throughout the year and the morning of the big shop, the crew give up their morning to help collect the food.

“They look forward to it every year,” Clay said.

Whonnock Roofing has been in business since 1978.
