The 4-H clubs were arriving from around the province as tables and displays were being set up and prizes were being placed on entries in the home arts section at the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Country Fest.
The fair, which has been around since 1901, opens on Saturday and continues on Sunday at the Albion Fairgrounds with a strong focus on local farming. But midway rides and entertainment run all day long as well.
Fairgoers can also see skating demos, take in a roller derby, and learn about backyard gardening.
Country Fest is free, but parking at the Albion sports fields (on 104th Avenue off 240th Street) is $2 with shuttles to the fair.
