Sheila and Len Wade were among the first shoppers at the new Thrifty Foods, which held its grand opening Wednesday morning.
“It’s very bright and beautiful,” said Sheila, who has lived in Maple Ridge for 33 years.
“There’s quite a selection, it’s nice and airy. I can’t believe its the same store as before,” Len added.
Dave Krupski, store manager of the new location, which is open 24-hours a day, was happily greeting customers.
“It’s very exciting. It’s a good feeling to open the doors and start serving the community,” Krupski said.
Another long-time Maple Ridge couple was also shopping on opening day.
“It’s a great store. What I really like is that you can see everything without having to search for it,” said Laurette Fortier, who was there with her husband Germaine.
“It’s so fresh looking and the displays are the best,” Laurette added.
“It’s great to have this store in the community. It’s a great reflection of our growth,” said MLA Marc Dalton. “I’ve been walking around and the residents seem to like the selection.”
