Two teams from B.C. are taking part in the Grand Slam of Curling Canadian Open in Kelowna from Dec. 12 to 16.

Maple Ridge's Grant Dezura and his teammates will be at the event at the Prospera Place arena.

They are competing against 18 of the top men's curling teams in the world, including Vancouver 2010 Olympic gold medalist Kevin Martin and world champions Jeff Stoughton and Glenn Howard.

The event will air on Sportsnet.

Dezura curls at the Royal City Curling Club. His team consists of Brent Pierce (New Westminster), Jeff Richard (Kelowna), as well as Kevin Recksiedler (Port Moody).

The other BC team taking part is Jim Cotter's rink. Jim Cotter, originally from Kamloops, lives in Vernon. His Grand Slam team consists of Second Tyrel Griffith (Kelowna) and Lead Rick Sawatsky (Kelowna). Joining the team for the Grand Slam event instead of their BC teammate Jason Gunnlaugson (Vernon), will be Dave Nedohin (Sherwood Park, Alberta).

Team Cotter are BC's highest ranking team based on Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points. He is also the defending BC champion. Team Pierce are BC's second-highest ranking team based on CTRS points.
