The Burnaby Mountain Selects boy's sophomore elite team reached the semi-finals in the high school division at the 2012 Adrenaline Challenge held at Del Mar Polo Fields, in San Diego, Calif. last month.

More than 130 teams across seven divisions descended on the Del Mar Polo Fields to contend for what is largely regarded as the western club lacrosse championship.

Two local kids are on the sophomore team: Mitchell McDole from Maple Ridge and Andrew Gresham from Pitt Meadows.

The top players in each division competed in an All-Star Game on Sunday morning. McDole was one of 50 selected to play in the game.

The sophomore Selects went 4-1 (.800), earning the No. 2 seed and reaching the South Swell High School Division Semi-Finals, while the Junior Selects posted a record of 3-1-1 (.800) in the Adrenaline Elite Division.

The scenic venue featured 18 immaculately maintained lacrosse fields that provide one of best natural playing surfaces in North America. The site also included a vendor village, as well as a recruiter lounge.

In the 32-team South Swell High School Division, the BMS Sophomores used five games to outscore their opponents 48-15, going undefeated in the tournament's round robin with wins over Lakeshore Lakers Gold (7-2), St. Louis Samurai Bluebelts (12-1), and Arizona Burn White (11-2). Earning the No. 2 seed for Sunday's eight-team play-off round, the Selects would defeat seventh seeded Quicksilver Gold HS (13-3), in the quarterfinals, before falling just short to Seattle Starz Green (7-5) in the high school semi-finals.

With BMS having attended seven Adrenaline events over the past five years, the sophomore Selects appearance in the 2012 Adrenaline Challenge High School Semi-Finals marks the seventh time that a BMS team has reached at least the semi-finals.

At the challenge, athletes were given the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of more than 90 coaches from NCAA and MCLA college lacrosse programs, including 2011 NCAA Division I National Championship runner-up Maryland, 2011 NCAA Div. III National Champion Salisbury and runner-up Tufts and other Top 20 NCAA Division I programs Denver, Drexel, Duke, and Notre Dame.
