Players’ injuries led to a disappointing finish at the provincial AA soccer championships.
Samuel Robertson Technical qualified for the B.C. High School AA Soccer Championships for the second time in a row.
SRT finished third in the Fraser Valley Championships beating Sands 3-2 with two goals by Spencer Pallone and one by Curtis Ogilvie to secure a spot in the provincial championships.
In the first game of the provincial tournament SRT beat the high-ranked Notre Dame 2-1 with goals by Pallone and Jesse Erhardsen.
Unfortunately, with injuries to key players the team finished 12th – with one win, one tie, and three losses by only one goal in each of the three defeats.
“We limped into the B.C.s due to injuries and barely crawled out,” said coach John Sneddon.
Erhardsen was named to the Commissioners 11 All-Star team.
In every game this year Erhardsen proved himself to be the most valuable player on the team.
Many of the players impressed university coaches who attended, especially Bruce Wilso of University of Victoria and Pat Rohla of Trinity Western University.
Overall the season was a success and coach Sneddon attributed the high level of play by the team to core players such Trevor White, Ogilvie, Emerson Kot, Erhardsen, and Pallone playing for Abbotsford Mariners FC in the BC Select Premier League.
Only six players return for next season so 2013 will be a rebuilding year.
