After a long two-year layoff, due to shoulder injury and surgery, Maple Ridge resident and Carlson Gracie MMA fighter Kurtis Waterston finally found himself healthy enough to step into the ring again.
Waterston competed in a 135-pound Muay Thai fight on Saturday at Fraserview Hall in Vancouver.
Under the tutelage of Carlson Gracie MMA’s head striking coach, Toby McEachern, Waterston came into the fight looking in fantastic shape and ready to fight.
The fight was scheduled for three rounds, however, only one was needed as Waterston made quick work of his opponent.
Throwing vicious punch and kick combinations, the Carlson Gracie MMA veteran saw his opponent quickly falling to the mat. After a devastating body kick to the ribs, it was evident Waterston’s opponent was hurt receiving a standing eight count from the referee.
Although clearly injured, the other fighter from Port Alberni decided to continue. Sensing a near finish, Waterston came on strong by continuing to punish his man with severe leg kicks and hooks to the body. Followed by series of knees to the body until the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
Fight fans definitely got what they paid for.
