Make 2012 a year to get fit by preparing to run or walk in The Vancouver Sun Run.

Sun Run InTraining Clinics started Jan. 14 but it's not too late to sign up as the last day to register is Feb. 3.

Signing up for a Sun Run InTraining clinic might be just the place to start.

InTraining clinics in Maple Ridge are offered at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre on Sundays at 9 a.m.

In Pitt Meadows the clinics are offered at Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

The 13-week guided clinics are available for walkers (Walk10K), novice (LearnToRun10K), and more experienced runners (RunFaster10K).

These proven SportMedBC's training programs combine walking with jogging or running in order to safely and gradually improve fitness ability.

Coordinators at each centre are experienced health and fitness professionals, and work with a team of SportMedBC trained volunteers.

Each session offers expert training plus professional advice on shoes, running gear, nutrition, tips for injury prevention, while providing camaraderie.

The $139 clinic fee includes 13-weekly guided training sessions with trained leaders who provide expert advice, coaching tips, motivational support, and a number of fitness items.

A virtual training program is available for those who don't have time to attend a clinic. Visit www.sportmedbc.com to sign up.

The Vancouver Sun Run takes place Sunday, April 15 at 9 a.m. The Sun Run is Canada's biggest 10-kilometre road race, and ranked as the second largest in North America.
