The Maple Ridge Secondary wrestling team is going to have a presence at the upcoming B.C. high school wrestling championships.

Shaimen Bhogal, Libby McDonnell, Cam Hicks, and Payten Smith are headed to the competition after placing fourth, third, second, and first, respectively, at the Upper Fraser Valley championsips held last Saturday in Abbotsford.

Despite having four of its athletes qualify, it was a disappointing meet for the Ridge wrestlers as head and stomach problems plagued the 16-person team, starting the day before the competition.

As a result many of them couldn't make their weight class.

"We still expect to return to Maple Ridge with three provincial championship medals. not so bad," said MRSS wrestling coach Bill McCrae.

The B.C. meet will be held Feb. 28 to March 2 in Duncan.
