The Sampo stone commemorates the Finnish heritage in the new Webster's Corners Park, and the next step is to highlight the Scottish influence in the area.
About 300 people came to the new neighbourhood park next to Webster's Corners Elementary as it was officially opened on Saturday during the annual Webster's Corners Day celebrations.
Mary Robson, who helps organize Webster's Corners Day, said the next step will be getting something into the park to highlight James Murray Webster, a Scotsman who established the area in 1882.
No headstone of Webster nor his wife Annie Worling Webster have ever been found in Maple Ridge. Webster was the first postmaster in Webster's Corners and also established the local school.
Robson said the community association would like the stone to be similar to the Finnish stone, and she's appealing to the community to help find an equivalent piece of rock so it can be carved for next year's Webster's Corners Day.
"We want it to be a commemorative stone - a stone with character," Robson said.
