Ridge Meadows Burrards Pee Wee girls lacrosse team earned gold at the provincials held in Nanaimo.

The Ridge Meadows Burrards Pee Wee girls lacrosse team capped off their season in stunning fashion by winning a second consecutive provincial championship against powerhouse – the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

During the tournament, the Maple Ridge girls faced the Salmonbellies twice losing the first meeting 5-4.

However, the girls won games against host team Namaimo, Burnaby, and Port Coquitlam to advance into the gold medal championship game.

The championship game featured the Maple Ridge Burrards jumping out to an insurmountable seven-goal lead before New West scored late in the third period. Scorers for the Burrards included Paige Bell, Mykheala Johnson, Erin Laverty, Brooke Parry and Hayley Vaughan.

The final score was 7-3 for the determined Maple Ridge squad.

Rounding out the team roster were: Kaila Barteski, Reegan Gill, Kennedy Gill, Kira Krause,Ashleigh Lesser, Lynnea Lindsay, Jayde Meredith, Blythe Parry, Jenica Schellauf, Paige Tomlinson, and Caylea Whipple.

In addition to the Provincial Championship, three players from the Burrards received additional recognition for their outstanding individual play: Mykheala Johnson for Tournament MVP, Paige Bell for League MVP, and Kennedy Gill for Most Inspirational player.
