A tournament for up-and-comers takes place at Swan-e-Set in Pitt Meadows in June.

A big league golf tournament will make a stop in Pitt Meadows when it tees off for its 15th season.

Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club will host the two-day Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) on June 1 and 2.

The tournament is open to golfers up to age 19 and multi-day events are also qualifiers for a major or international junior event, to help increase exposure of local players.

The MJT distributed more than $50,000 in scholarships, awards, and international event funding last year, and is the most-played junior tour in Canada with the largest field sizes for competitive multi-day tournaments in the country.

The 2013 national schedule of 60 tournaments and clinics includes 10 events in B.C. throughout the spring, summer, and fall, featuring top golf courses.

Registration for the Swan-e-set stop or for any other event is online at www.maplejt.com.

The non-profit tour is Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the “Road to College Golf” in Canada.

The MJT hosts more than 60 events across Canada, including free Ford Go Golf Junior Clinics, the MJT Mini Tour for seven to 12 year olds, and multi-day events for competitive players which also qualify juniors for international competitions.

The program offers annual awards, scholarships, and frequent player incentives to help reward a player’s performance and participation throughout each season.

MJT alumni include many professional tour players and Canadian PGA professionals, as well as Canadian amateur, national, and provincial junior champions.
