Pitt Meadows resident Katie Stanoffsky and Maple Ridge's Bayley Bird, along with the rest of their Lower Mainland U16 AA Ringette team, travelled to Edmonton to compete in the prestigious Woods tournament and came home with gold after downing Calgary 8-2 in the final game.

The Lower Mainland Thunder went 5-0 during the tournament outscoring their opponents from Alberta and Saskatchewan 37-11 over the three day tournament.

This is only the second time in the 26-year history of the tournament that a team from B.C. has won gold and the first time in the U16 division.

The Lower Mainland Thunder consists of the top U16 Ringette players from Abbotsford to Richmond and will be travelling to Fredericton, New Brunswick in April to compete in the Canadian Ringette Championships.
