Maple Ridge Barracudas Atom C1 team captured the regular season league banner with an impressive 10-0-0 season.
The Barracudas, a team of only 12 players, entered the season with four new players to hockey and two girls who moved up from the novice age group to fill the roster.
But with coaching from head coach Darren Boyd and assistants Dave Lige and Bruce Vasarhely, the team bonded quickly.
“It was evident from early on that we had a great group of girls who loved hockey,” said Boyd. “They had a desire to work hard and learn at every opportunity they were given. Plus they had a lot of fun on the ice, so when you put it all together the girls had a lot of success.”
The undefeated season reflected a combination of great goal-keeping from Emily Branter and strong defense from Sierra Boyd, Faith Lige, Monica Madsen and Emma Vasarhely. A hungry set of forwards created a lot of pressure on offense with: Tristan Craig, Gabrielle Hankey, Chelsea Karsten, Adriana Mostrenko, Yanika Noel, McKenna Stuart and Hailey Thomas.
The team is 2-0 in the playoffs having knocked off Surrey C2 5-0 and the Langley C2 team 4-1. Their next playoff game is schedule for Saturday, Feb. 23 against Burnaby C1 with the playoff banner on the line.
