The Ridge Meadows Flames grounded the Abbotsford Pilots' attack Saturday at Planet Ice.

The junior B Flames got stellar goaltending from Wesley McLeod, to go along with goals from Matthew Bissett in the first period and captain Shane Harle in the middle frame of a 2-0 win over the visiting Pilots.

The win moved the Ridge Meadows record to 8-27-0-1, and snapped the Flames' five-game losing skid.

The Pilots are an impressive 23-10-2-0 and are tied with the Aldergrove Kodiaks for top spot in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League's Harold Brittain Conference standings.

McLeod owned the spotlight Saturday, stopping all 27 shots he faced. He was especially sharp in a first period, in which the Flames were out-shot 11-4 by the Pilots but still managed to enter the intermission with a 1-0 lead.

"He had a great game," Flames head coach Tavis Eaton said of his second-year puckstopper.

Ridge Meadows holds the fourth and final playoff spot in the Harold Brittain Conference, and remains four points up on the Mission Icebreakers.

With a 5-27-0-3 mark, the Icebreakers have played one game more than the Flames.

Eaton hopes the win over the Pilots will give the Flames confidence moving forward, as the PIJHL's 44-game regular season heads towards the home stretch.

"The guys are starting to buy into everything [they are being taught]," Eaton said. "They know our record isn't going to change much. Yeah, the record's terrible, but we think we can do some damage and play with anyone, and that's half the battle."

The Flames return to Planet Ice this Friday when they host the Delta Ice Hawks.

Game time is 7: 30 p.m.
