In spite of a few raindrops, organizers of Tuesday afternoon's inaugural Community FORE Charity Golf Tournament called the event a big success.

Roughly 95 golfers played at Swan-e-Set in Pitt Meadows during a fundraiser for the Maple Ridge Community Foundation, which, through a community endowment, supports local charitable groups with grants.

By growing the endowment, the MRCF helps more people every year.

Brandee McWhinney, a director with the foundation, said the spotty rain showers that showed up for short spell didn't act as a deterrent.

"There were a few light showers but it wasn't enough to dampen spirits," McWhinney said.
