JAMBOREE HAPPENS

Port Coquitlam Ridge Meadows Ringette Association is hosting a jamboree Feb. 22 to 24 at the Wilson Centre in Port Coquitlam.

Thirty-nine teams are participating including seven teams made up of children from Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Port Coquitlam.

Also, BC Thunder and Winnipeg Prairie Fire will play on Saturday night at 7 p.m. These two teams play in the National Ringette League. Visit: pcrmra.ca.

LADIES WIN THREE

The Simon Fraser University women's and men's track and field teams finished in fourth and ninth positions respectively at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Nampa, Idaho, on Saturday.

Maple Ridge's Leah Regan placed 15th running the mile in 5: 37: 36.

TOP PLAYER NAMED

A Maple Ridge basketball player was named Athlete of the Week. Five-foot-10 Rhea Silvestri plays for the Langara Falcons women's team.

The Falcons travelled to Abbotsford on Feb. 9 to face the Bearcats, and once again Silvestri contributed on the boards. She grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with nine points and three steals.

Langara took the game 67-51 and in doing so kept their hopes of extending their season alive.
