Maple Ridge's Karina LeBlanc was at the front end of the Canadian team's entourage at the Olympic closing ceremonies in London on Sunday.

Her teammate Christine Sinclair, captain of the women's soccer team, carried the Canadian flag with the rest of the team close behind.

The Canadian women's team defeated France 1-0 in the bronzemedal match, earning Canada's 15th medal and its first Olympic summer team sport medal since 1936.

"Hey Canada, we are coming home with a bronze for ya!" LeBlanc tweeted after the win. "So proud to be part of this amazing team, current and past players! This is for everyone that dreamed big."

Diana Matheson scored the game's only goal in overtime to put Canada on the Olympic soccer podium for the first time since the men's team won gold in 1904.

Team Canada spokesperson Sylvie Bernier called the team "determined, focused, hard-working."

"The women's soccer team is a perfect example of what makes our athletes great," said Bernier.
