In the third week of BC Rugby Union action all three of the Ridge Meadows Bruins teams took part.
First up were the Lady Bruins who faced off against Abbotsford RFC.
The Lady Bruins fought hard throughout the match against a formidable opponent losing 70-12. The score however did not reflect the high level of rugby played by both teams as the two sides were left exhausted after the match.
Bruins tries were scored by Dawne Carver and Rachel Spinelli. Additionally, Larissa Chatt scored on a conversion kick for the Lady Bruins squad.
Next up for the team is Kelowna RFC.
Immediately afterwards the Bruins men’s squad took on Bayside Athletic Association from White Rock in their home opener.
The Bruin’s effort was all around as the forwards displayed relentless support and the back’s broke through the line at will. The effort resulted in a 52-19 victory for the hometown Bruins.
Tries were scored by Courtland Kerr, Dustin Fletcher, Connor Epp, Justin Cole, and Josh Ladd. Additionally, Reed Nelson and Paul Stanfield were successful on conversion kicks.
The team’s next match is against Chilliwack RFC.
Closing out the weekend for the club were the U17 men’s team who faced off against Richmond RFC.
Though undermanned the Bruins squad fought hard in a 68-14 loss.
Props Ethan Marin and Harry Dixon lead the support effort for the forwards. Bruins tries were scored by Miller Thind, who was successful on two conversion attempts as well.
The U17 Bruins men’s next match is against Kelowna RFC.
Bruin’s Men and Women’s teams practice at Merkley Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, and 7:30 p.m. at Westview Secondary on Thursdays. New members are always welcome. Potential players are encouraged to contact sukhi@bruinsrugbyclub.com (Youth, and Mens), as well as Alison@bruinsrugbyclub.com (Womens).
