Maple Ridge’s own Karina LeBlanc prevented the top-seeded Western New York Flash from completing any goals in the National Womens’ Soccer League title match Saturday night.
In the match in Rochester, New York, the Thorns played a player short from the 56th minute on due to a second yellow card on Portland defender Kathryn Williamson.
Yet, the player down was not enough for the Flash to make good on their efforts. The Flash made a valiant attempt with 18 shots during the player advantage, vs. the Thorns nine shots.
Christine Sinclair, a native of Burnaby, and formerly a member of the Flash scored the second goal to seal the game for the first-year team.
