When partygoers at a Pitt Meadows rave heard that two people were having sex in a field, a crowd quickly gathered and the cellphones and cameras came out.

“There was everybody just taking pictures and videotaping it,” Paige Morgan, 19, testified Tuesday in B.C. Provincial Court in Port Coquitlam.

Morgan was called as a witness at the trial of 21-year-old Dennis Warrington, who is charged with publishing and distributing child pornography.

Warrington is accused of posting to his Facebook page photos others took of sexual acts that took place between a 16-year-old girl and a young man at an outdoor rave in 2010. It is alleged that the acts, which did not include intercourse, were not consensual.

Warrington did not know the girl.

Morgan went to the rave with friends at around 9: 30 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2010. She was sober when she arrived, but she and her friends shared two bottles of vodka over the course of the evening as they socialized.

She said she knew most of the people at the party from school and from other events.

As Morgan and her friends stood outside a barn where a DJ was playing music, a male came up and told them that someone was “having sex with a guy pretty much in the bush.”

They went over and joined the crowd of onlookers.

So many people were taking pictures – including four older men who were close to the couple – that the flashes were “like lightning.”

“Everyone was getting pictures of it,” Morgan said.

Morgan said she just took a brief look at what was happening: “I wasn’t looking the entire time. It was kind of disturbing.”

Soon after she walked up, the sex acts ended, Morgan said. The girl got up, dressed and walked away laughing and looking happy, according to Morgan’s police statement.

Morgan said the couple were not trying to hide what they were doing and it was her impression that the sex acts were consensual, based on watching and listening to the couple.

Morgan said she and her friends left the party a short time later and went to McDonald’s. At the restaurant she saw the girl from the party. She said the girl was upset because she had lost her cellphone, but otherwise “she seemed happy and like nothing was wrong.”

A few days after the rave Morgan saw a photo of the girl - engaged in oral sex - on someone’s Facebook page. Morgan said photos were going around from a number of sources.

One of Morgan’s friends, Brittany Plamondon, was with her at the party. Plamondon is a friend of the young woman who was photographed.

She said she briefly saw what happened between the two people as she left the party. Her attention was drawn to what was happening because people were laughing.

“It wasn’t something I wanted to watch,” she said.

The trial is expected to continue in January.
