A 25-year-old Surrey man faces seven charges, including kidnapping and assault, in connection with a violent abduction and beating of a teen in Maple Ridge last weekend.
Ian James William Campbell appeared in Port Coquitlam court Thursday, and has been remanded in custody.
The list of charges include kidnapping, producing an imitation firearm, choking, assault, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, and auto theft, announced Ridge Meadows RCMP Insp. David Fleugel.
I do want to commend our investigative team for their diligence in working around the clock to pull this case together, the Mountie said.
I would again like to thank all citizens who provided information that allowed investigators a chance to solve this incident so fast. It speaks to the great relationship Ridge Meadows RCMP has with its citizens, and how we all can pull together to keep our communities safe.
The teenaged girl was approached out-side her work at Westgate on Jan. 19, by a man who said he needed help getting his car started.
Being a Good Samaritan, she agreed to help. Instead, she found herself at the end of a gun barrel being forced to drive her own car to a secluded area of town, not far from the abduction site.
Police reported that she was physically assaulted and extensively beaten before managing to fight free of her abductor and ran to a nearby home.
