The timing was too late for Terry Becker to mount a "credible election campaign," and, therefore, she won't be vying to be the BC Liberal candidate in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.
Becker said she would have wanted the nomination meeting to have been held before Christmas, so that if she had been chosen as the candidate, she would have had enough time to run a good campaign to be the MLA for her riding.
"I've withdrawn my name from the nomination," Becker told The TIMES on Wednesday.
At the moment, Pitt Meadows Councillor Doug Bing is the only nominee for the Liberals in the riding.
In the meantime, the BC Conservative Party has lined up a candidate for the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows riding.
Manuel Pratas was acclaimed as the candidate by the party two weeks ago with no other contenders.
Pratas lived for five years in Pitt Meadows before he moved to Maple Ridge 15 years ago where he lives with his wife and son.
Pratas said he is a straight talker, and he is tired of seeing waste in government, for example, the cost overruns with the Pitt Meadows Arena.
"There's lots of waste - I'm against waste," he said.
He also likes the Conservative party's policies, such as their policy of trying to keep jobs in British Columbia.
The NDP candidate for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows is Elizabeth Rosenau.
