It was standing room only at the new Pitt Meadows Seniors Centre Saturday afternoon.

Pitt Meadows Mayor Deb Walters, one of many dignitaries invited to unveil the plaque signifying the official opening, said the new centre is "beyond everyone's dreams."

"This isn't just a beautiful building, it is the story of how a vision can become something grand and how a group of dedicated people can make a difference that will impact the quality of people's lives today and into the future," she said.

"I know that our seniors' community has been waiting a very long time for this day to arrive and here we are," Walters added.

The centre is made by seniors, for seniors, and seniors brought it to life, Walters said.

Six and a half years ago Pat DeLuca approached City council with a vision for a retirement community. The council agreed - as long as he also built a public senior centre. The vision is now a reality with the opening of the Wesbrooke Seniors Living Community on Jan. 19 and the opening of the Pitt Meadows Seniors Centre on Jan. 26.

"I'm just delighted with the way it turned out," the mayor added.
