Fraser Valley RCMP have confirmed that a man found deceased on the Lougheed Highway near Ruby Creek late last year is that of Dan Rikkinen.
The 59-year-old man, a long time Maple Ridge resident who had more recently called Langley home, was reported missing by his family in late November.
He had last been seen by his wife on Nov. 22, and witnesses reported to police that he was seen early the next day by hotel staff (where he and his wife had been saying since selling their houseboat Nov. 1), and by a bank clerk.
After that, it’s unclear what happened to him.
His torched pickup truck was found Dec. 9, with a body inside in the District of Kent. But, it wasn’t until Jan. 4 that police confirmed the body was Rikkinen. His death is under investigation and the cause has not been officially confirmed, said RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth.
The B.C. Coroners office is looking into the matter.
Hollingsworth said the case is not considered to be suspicious at this time.
Rikkinen’s family has asked that most of the details about the incident not be relased.
