Police are still searching for a man suspected of stabbing a Maple Ridge teen in the heart at the Coquitlam bus loop two months ago.

Just after midnight on Dec. 15, a 19-year-old man was stabbed multiple times while waiting for a bus at Coquitlam Central Station at the corner of Barnet and Lougheed highways. One of the stabs pierced his heart.

Bystanders provided basic first aid and called 911. Minutes later, paramedics arrived and rushed the local teen to hospital with life-threatening injuries. After a major surgery, he remained in critical condition for days.

Coquitlam RCMP Const. Andrew Coupe said the victim is now recovering at home.

"We expect at this point that he will make a full recovery, although there's no way of telling if he'll bear psychological scars as a result of the attack," Coupe said at a press conference Thursday morning.

The victim is not known to police and does not appear to know his attacker, Coupe added. The motive of the attack is unknown.

For the first time, police released surveillance videos of the suspect and provided a time-line of his movements.

At 11: 09 p.m. on Dec. 14, the suspect entered Granville SkyTrain Station in Vancouver and boarded an eastbound train.

At 11: 44 p.m., he arrived at Braid Station in New Westminster. He walked to Bay 2 of the adjacent bus loop and boarded bus No. 169.

The bus arrived at Coquitlam Central Station at 12: 21 a.m. on Dec. 15.

The suspect got off the bus, and the stabbing occurred within the next two minutes.

At 12: 23 a.m., the suspect was seen running north through the bus loop towards Lougheed Highway. He was last seen by witnesses running east on Lougheed Highway towards Westwood Street.

Police found a knife near the scene.

"Despite an extensive police investigation, we are still looking for the one crucial lead that will identify the suspect," Coupe said.

"I'm here today to ask for the public's help in solving this case."

Coupe described the suspect as Caucasian, of average height and build, who is about 30 years old. He has a lean face with a square jaw and pronounced cheekbones.

At the time of the stabbing, he had brown hair in an army-style buzz cut.

He was wearing white pants, a green hoodie, and black shoes.

"We also know, based on witness accounts, that the suspect had noticeable body odour, as if he had not showered for days," Coupe said.

"When the suspect fled the area, he discarded his hoodie. We recovered it and I brought it with me today."

With gloved hands, Coupe held up a green Death Valley hoodie with a black skulls design.

"Based on the smell of the hoodie, we believe the suspect wore it often and it may have been a favourite or a signature piece of clothing," Coupe said.

Police would like to hear from anyone who recognizes the suspect from the surveillance video or from the hoodie he wore the night of the stabbing.

"If you recognize this man or his hoodie, we need to hear from you. If you know someone who used to wear this hoodie but has not worn it recently, we need to hear from you. If you work in a store that sells this hoodie and you recall selling one to this man, we need to hear from you. If you know anything that you think might be relevant to our investigation, we need to hear from you," Coupe said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP's major crimes section at 604-945-1477.
