Police are looking for a man who attacked a woman at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25.
A woman in her 20s was walking along the Anderson Creek Trail, which is located near the 13900 block of 230th Street in Silver Valley.
A man attacked the woman, knocking her to the ground. The victim fought back and the suspect fled, said Ridge Meadows RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.
"This is a very alarming incident, and we will need the assistance of the public," Dunlop said.
"We are appealing to anyone who saw a man running away from this area to contact police as soon as possible," she added.
Due to the surprise nature of the attack, the victim is not able to provide police with a description of her attacker. However, the victim caused some facial injury to the suspect.
"Our victim sustained non-life threatening injuries, and has sought medical attention for these," the corporal added.
Ridge Meadows RCMP are reminding everyone, in particular women, of this incident. They encourage people to be wary of their surroundings and to carry a cellphone, and anything, such as a whistle, that can alert other people.
In the meantime this case is being investigated by all members of the detachment, said Dunlop.
Anyone with information in regards to a crime is asked to contact Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251. To remain anonymous call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
GETAWAY BUS BAD CHOICE
An alleged botched robbery near the Boulevard Casino might just prove that a bus isn't necessarily the best getaway vehicle.
Mounties were called out to the Coquitlam casino during the afternoon of June 13 after reports of a man trying to rob patrons at the facility. The suspect approached his first victim as that person left the casino, but failed to get any money.
Police said he then approached and allegedly robbed a second victim.
Immediately after the alleged robbery, the suspect was seen fleeing the scene by hopping on a bus.
The RCMP dispatch called out its Air One helicopter, while contacting Coast Mountain Bus to figure out which vehicle the suspect was riding. Officers were able to set up checkpoints before stopping the bus at Mary Hill Bypass and Broadway Street in PoCo. Mounties arrested a suspect and accomplice on the bus.
Travis Storteboom, a 25-year-old Maple Ridge man, is facing two robbery charges.
He was expected to see a judge via video on June 27.
