Firefighters in Pitt Meadows were kept busy the past few days.

“We had a pretty busy weekend with everything from stranded horses, to MVAs, and two vehicle fires. The two vehicle fires were suspicious,” said Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue assistant chief Rob Chatton.

One of the car fires was on Harris Road and one was on Wharf Street.

The Harris Road car fire happened on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 10:45 p.m.

“The vehicle was found fully involved with no owner or occupants around. Crew extinguished the fire before it spread to the dry grass and brush nearby,” said Chatton.

The Wharf Street car fire happened on Saturday, Sept. 15, also at 10:45 p.m.

Both have been deemed suspicious, according to Chatton.

One of the vehicles had been reported stolen, while police are still trying to reach the other owner.

Meanwhile, over in Maple Ridge a third car was in flames.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 James Zacharias was awakened by a car alarm going off outside in the 11200 block of Cottonwood Drive in Maple Ridge.

Several minutes later there were “loud popping sounds” coming from the street.

“Looking out we saw an SUV in flame,” said Zacharias. Police have confirmed that the Ford Explorer was not stolen and not deemed suspicious.

The two horses climbed out of the ditch themselves.
