A Mission Mountie is currently under investigation following an altercation with fellow police officers outside Rooster’s Country Cabaret in Pitt Meadows this weekend.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, June 3, an off-duty police officer exited the bar on Lougheed Highway and Harris Road, and appparently engaged in an argument with a fellow male patron, explained Supt. Dave Walsh, the officer in charge of Ridge Meadows RCMP.
On duty uniformed RCMP officers, who were already patrolling the parking area at closing time, intervened and attempted to defuse the situation, Walsh said.
The two police officers were allegedly assaulted by the off-duty Mission Mountie. He was immediately arrested, taken into custody, and transported to lockup in cells at the Maple Ridge detachment.
“Whether on or off duty, police officers are subject to the same laws that apply to everyone,” Walsh said.
“Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating this as an assault peace officer file,” he added, explaining that local police have recommended Crown counsel proceed with criminal charges against the fellow officer.
But charges, Walsh said, have not yet been approved “and thus we are not in a position to identify the officer in question.”
In addition to the potential criminal charge, the officer is also facing an internal code of conduct investigation.
