Dear Editor,
Is it safe to cross Dewdney Trunk Road?
Since the closing of the Albion ferry and the ongoing subdivision construction, I have noticed a considerable increase in auto and pedestrian traffic on Dewdney Trunk Road.
There has been considerable road work done, day in and day out, to improve the traffic flow.
However, our standalone crosswalks have been overlooked. I have to wonder if anyone on our city council safety committee has ever driven on Dewdney Trunk on a dark, rainy night.
Winter is just around the corner, so we still have time to rectify this. Those stand-alone crosswalks are unsafe and outdated.
I have been in smaller communities throughout this province, and have seen crosswalks that are very well lit and easy to see. Some even had a button to activate a flashing yellow caution light.
How many more accidents or fatalities is it going to take before this city's safety committee becomes proactive and addresses this issue.
