There was a fire Saturday night started by a kiln stored behind a garage in the 22600 block of 136th Avenue.
The fire spread to a fibreglass canopy and the attic above the garage, said Maple Ridge's assistant fire chief Timo Juurakko.
"It was a quick knockdown," Juurakko said, adding that the damage was contained to the garage attic.
"All of the artist's tools and equipment are undamaged," he added.
In police news, two accidents happened within minutes of each other in Maple Ridge on Thursday afternoon - one at 224th Street and Lougheed Highway, the other at 242th Street and 102nd Avenue.
A crash in Albion was witnessed by Chase Saunders, 16, and he said it was "lucky no kids were hurt."
"It happened so fast. I'm actually kind of shocked and shaking. I've never been so close to an accident before," he said.
"I've been in an accident, but I've never been so close to getting hit... I'm glad I was on the sidewalk," said Saunders, who added that he felt the impact and was hit with flying glass.
Fire crews were on scene directing traffic. And firefighter Marco Bonifazi remarked that "everyone was out of the vehicles when we arrived."
The other incident happened in the heart of downtown Haney at 2:15 p.m., where a 88-year-old man was crossing in the sidewalk on his scooter and was hit by a westbound car.
Police say he was taken to hospital with minor bumps and abrasions.
