The Happening at Thomas Haney Secondary is more than just a regular arts and crafts sale.

It is annual event that requires the help of many volunteers.

"It can't happen without the support of all the volunteers, the Thomas Haney Secondary staff, and the community," said French teacher Lorraine Ryan, who co-ordinated the event with colleague and fellow language teacher Heather Fischer.

Around 75 students and a dozen staff members volunteered for the weekend, in order to make the 20th anniversary of The Happening a success.

Students signed up for everything from parking lot attendants, to ticket takers, to kids handing out flyers.

"I think it is really cool to see all the students work together," said Hayley Jones, a Grade 11 student.

"We were surprised at the turnout. It's been amazing," said 16-year-old Aviana Siojo, also in Grade 11.

About 3,000 people browsed and bought at venders' tables.

"It was so nice to see the community come together and support one another, buying each others stuff. We even had many new venders this year," said Jenna Young, 16.
