Thrifty's pulls meat

Thrifty Foods in Maple Ridge has been affected by the XL Foods "whole cuts" beef recall. Thrifty's does not normally receive meats from XL Foods, but company officials stated that during the period "small amounts of whole beef cuts" were bought from the company. There have been no confirmed reports of illness from the beef, the company reported.

Other locations that have been affecated are Tsawwassen, Coquitlam, Abbotsford, North Vancouver, Duncan, Tuscany Village, Hillside, Admirals Walk, Central Saanich, Quadra/Cloverdale, and Saltspring Island.

A small amount of beef product, in various cuts, is affected at each location.

In addition, at the Thrifty Foods Coquitlam location, approximately 20 packages of beef bottom round steaks, beef bottom round roasts and beef hip stewing meat were inadvertently mislabeled as Sterling Silver, a product from Cargill. Cargill is not involved in the XL Foods recall.

All recalled raw beef products have been removed from our store shelves. There have been no confirmed reports of illness as a result of customers consuming XL Foods beef products purchased in any of our stores.

Customers concerned that they may have purchased this product are asked to destroy the product and bring a receipt, product label or empty packaging back to the store where purchased for a full refund.
