Sixty-five firefighters and 14 fire trucks from all three Maple Ridge fire halls battled a blaze in Silver Valley Wednesday afternoon.

No one was hurt in the fire, which took place in the new housing development around 136th Avenue at 227th Street.

“The initial report was that two houses were on fire. The next report said there were three. By the time we got there one house was completely consumed and the roofs of neighbouring houses were burning,” said Maple Ridge assistant fire chief Mark Smitton.

By the time the fire was extinguished four houses under construction, one occupied home, various trailers, and vehicles, were all damaged.

“A sixth house sustained exposure damage – cracked windows and melted soffits,” said Smitton.

Three spot fires of surrounding urban interface [grass and trees] were also put out by firefighters.

“All the witness accounts are still been collected. We don’t suspect arson at this time because there was no information provided that would lead us to believe it was an arson,” Smitton confirmed.
