Nearly $1,500 was raised at a fundraiser for work in Rwanda held at Samz in Pitt Meadows on Saturday.

“We had somewhere between 60 and 70 people in attendance and we raised just shy of $1,500,” said organizer of the Rwanda-Or-Bust team Brenda Garcia.

“We will now have enough money to send to Gashora, Rwanda to add the beam above the walls we built so our work will be protected from the rainy season until the next volunteer group can go and complete the building,” she explained.

The volunteer group went to Rwanda through a non-profit called Developing World Connections in Kamloops.

The community they worked in was Gashora, Rwanda where they built walls for a training kitchen and community restaurant that will be operated by the Covaga Weaver’s Cooperative.
