Pitt Meadows: Back-pats premature

Dear Editor,

Pitt Meadows Mayor Walters and the Pitt Meadows Economic Development Corporation have been patting each other on the back over the jobs brought here by the PMEDC.

First, the two companies in question already have most, if not all, their employees, and are simply transferring them here. So, no new jobs for Pitt Meadows residents.

Second, companies don’t change locations just for the scenery. Queen Walters and the PMEDC have made no mention about what incentives they have awarded these companies in return for their relocation.

How many years will these companies pay less for services and taxes?

What benefit is there for Pitt Meadows residents?

Two hundred more vehicles on our roads, Mayor Walters justifies another pay raise, and the PMEDC justifies its $250,000 annual cost.

How much of this type of success can we stomach?

Archie Blankers, Pitt Meadows
