Native rights: Idle No More tiring

Dear Editor,

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of some of the aboriginal bands claiming poverty while receiving millions of dollars from our federal government?

The Attawapiskat Nation claims its band members are living in poverty with many living in tents and others unable to afford fixing the leaky roofs in their homes.

However, Chief Theresa Spence earns a tax-free salary of $70,000 in a community of 1,500.

There are three chiefs and eighteen councillors for this tiny community. One of the tech managers earns $171,000 year, while another staff member claimed $68,000 in travel expenses for only two months!

The federal government reports that, since 2006, it has spent $131 million on the Attawapiskat reserve alone.

In another situation, there could be a criminal investigation.
