Mystery writer Cathy Ace is getting excited about two literary events this spring: her book is featured at the second annual One Book Whonnock in late February, and in March she will launch her second novel in the Cait Morgan series.
With a few weeks to go until the Feb. 28 One Book Whonnock event, Ace is hoping people who live, work, study, or worship in Whonnock, Ruskin, or Thornhill will still read her novel and sign up to take part in the literary event at Whonnock Lake Centre based on her novel The Corpse with the Silver Tongue.
The event is endorsed by the three community associations: Whonnock, Ruskin, and Thornhill.
The books are available at the Maple Ridge Library and for purchase from Haney Place Mall's Black Bond Books. The local Black Bond Books will give a discount of 10 per cent to those asking for the book for One Book Whonnock.
The Corpse with the Golden Nose, the second book in Ace's mystery series, which features the Welsh-Canadian heroine Cait Morgan, comes out in March.
Ace draws on her own Welsh background in her heroine Cait Morgan, and while the author is ensconced in east Maple Ridge these days, she keeps up connections with her country of origin, the Principality of Wales.
"Residents refer to it as a country," Ace explained.
Since she left Wales in the 1980s, there has been a resurgence of Welsh culture and language, and the Welsh diaspora - of which she's a part - are coming back and celebrating everything Welsh.
On Feb. 28 from 7: 30 to 9 p.m. at Whonnock Lake Centre, One Book Whonnock will take place, including a discussion about the book with Ace and people who have read it.
